Nick Womack Honored by College Football Performance Awards

Sept. 20, 2011

2011 College Football Performers of the Week (Sept. 18, 2011)

Bronx, N.Y. -

Fordham University senior linebacker Nick Womack (Maple Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) was named Honorable Mention NCAA FCS Linebacker Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards it was announced on Monday. It is his first award of the year and the second for a Ram in 2011 (punter Patrick Murray was named NCAA FSC Punter of the Week on September 4th).

In Fordham's 21-14 Liberty Cup win over Columbia last Saturday, Womack provided the spark for the Rams who were trailing 7-0 in the second quarter when he intercepted a pass and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown. It was the longest interception return in school history and ties the NCAA record (the NCAA does not recognize any yardage in the end zone so it's a record that will never be broken). It is also the third 100-yard play in Fordham history, the other two being kickoff returns.

Womack also had five tackles in the game, three solo, including 1.5 sacks for a loss of eight yards.

On the year, Womack has registered ten total tackles, four solo, including a team-best 2.5 sacks. He also has two interceptions for the 1-1 Rams

The Rams will continue their 2011 schedule on Saturday, September 24th, as they travel to Kingston, R.I., to face the University of Rhode Island Rams at 1:00 p.m.
