SERIES HISTORY: This is the first ever meeting between Fordham and Texas A&M. It is also the first time Fordham has met a Big 12 team.
LAST TIME OUT: In what was an extremely offensive contest that saw 39 shots, Fordham's Mariella Romano had her first career multi-goal game to lead the Rams to a 4-2 victory over the Utah Valley Wolverines at Ellis Field in College Station, Texas. It was the first time Fordham scored four goals in a game since 2009.
The Rams wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Mariella Romano netted her second goal of the season on the first shot of the game. Romano took a lateral cross from the right from Annie Worden, and then scored from just left of the penalty area into the upper right corner. The goal came only 3:57 into the contest.
The Wolverines tied the score at one later in the first half, when Regan Clifford scored her first goal of the season in the 34th minute, sneaking the ball between the legs of Fordham goalkeeper Rachel Suther.
The score finished tied a one all by halftime, as the Rams had a 12-9 shot advantage with Suther having four saves in the first 45 minutes.
Fordham regained the lead just three minutes into the second half, when Romano netted her second goal of the game. She scored from the top of the six-yard box into the back left of the net with Michaela Murphy and Mary Solimine picking up the assists.
Eight minutes later, Utah Valley once again knotted the game, this time on a goal by Natalie Young. Young blasted a line drive kick from the right side of the 18-yard box off an assist by Lexi Robison.
The Rams once again regained the lead in the 68th minute, courtesy of Kristina Maksuti and Maria Lorena Canicatti, as Maksuti scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season from the left side off Canicatti's corner kick.
A little over four minutes later, Fordham grabbed a two-goal lead at 4-2. On the attack, Megan Poiesz netted her second goal of the season past a diving Lauren Sack on a hard shot to the back of the net.
Poiesz's goal wrapped up a four-goal night for the Rams, the first for the team since October 4, 2009, when Fordham posted a 4-0 victory over Xavier.
In goal, Suther finished with six saves, improving her record to 3-3-1, while Sack had eight stops for the Wolverines.
MAKSUTI NAMED A-10 CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK (9/6): Fordham University freshman forward Kristina Maksuti was named Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Co-Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference. This is Maksuti's first career Atlantic 10 weekly honor.
In two games, Maksuti tallied five points last week, netting a pair of game-winning goals. She scored the game-winner in a 4-3 overtime comeback victory over Cornell on Friday, and then tallied the eventual game winner and an assist in a 3-1 win at Delaware State on Sunday.
Overall, Maksuti leads the team in scoring with five goals and two assists for 12 points in six games.
MULTI-GOAL GAMES: For the first time in 2009, the Rams have multiple players that have scored at least two goals in a game this season. Freshman Kristina Makusti pulled the feat in the first game of the season against Seton Hall, while junior Annie Worden turned the trick against Stony Brook this past Sunday. In the Rams' most recent game, Mariella Romano joined the fray, netting two goals against Utah Valley.
Worden was also a part of the last time this happened in 2009, joining Michelle Ancelj and Leah Loguidice with multi-goal games.
