Men's Golf in Seventh Place After First Round of Bucknell Fall Invitational

Lewisburg, Pa. - In the first competition of the 2011 fall season for the Fordham men's golf team, the Rams find themselves in seventh position out of 13 teams after completion of the first round of play at the Bucknell Fall Invitational at the Bucknell University Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Junior golfer, Brody Nieporte, shot an even-par 70 to lead all Fordham linksmen.

Patriot League school, Lehigh, led the team competition with a total score of 282. Fordham posted a 295 for round one, to earn a seventh place position. Nieporte's 70 placed him fifth overall in the individual competition, and was a career low for the junior from Atlanta, Georgia.

The next Ram in the rankings after Nieporte in the individual competition was senior captain, Devon O'Rourke, who shot a four-over 74, good for 22nd position. Jason Del Rosso was one stroke behind, in a tie for 27th place. Connor Monaghan shot a six-over 78, placing him in 38th place. Finally, Pat Herlihy shot an 81, putting him in a tie for 61st place.

The second round of 18 holes on the day saw the Rams' overall score improve from a 295 to a 292, but the squad fell in the team standings from 7th to 8th position. Not to be outdone by Nieporte's 70 in round one, O'Rourke posted a career-low score of 69 (one under par) to pace Fordham in the second round. His two round score of 143 puts him in a tie for 10th position with teammate Nieporte, who tagged a 73 on the second set of the day. Monaghan posted identical 76s for a 152 total, good for 43rd place. Del Rosso sits in a tie for 47th with a second round mark of 78 for 153. The biggest improvement for the Rams came from Herlihy, who shaved seven strokes off his opening 81, for a new career best of 74.

After two rounds have been completed, Lafayette College holds the team lead with an overall tally of 574, two strokes better than Longwood University. Individually, the overall leader is Anthony Kim of Army, who shot identical 69s (one under par) for a two round score of 138. The team will play the final 18 holes of the tournament on Saturday morning.
