Sept. 16, 2011

SERIES HISTORY: This is the first ever meeting between Fordham and Utah Valley. This is also the Rams' second meeting against a Great West Conference opponent this season, having beating Delaware State, 3-1, back on September 4th.

LAST TIME OUT: The Fordham women's soccer team looked for a bounce back effort after its hard luck loss on Friday night at Manhattan. The Rams' got that effort and evened their record with a 2-0 win over the Stony Brook Seawolves at Jack Coffey Field, led by two goals from Annie Worden.

After a scoreless first half that saw both teams finish with four shots each, the Rams cracked the scoreboard in the 51st minute. Maria Lorena Canicatti slipped in a cross from the left side of the box to Annie Worden, who connected on a 15-yard one-timer for her second goal of the season.

The same duo made it 2-0 Fordham in the 66th minute, when Canicatti crossed the ball along the end line in front of the net, where Worden banged home her second tally of the game from five yards out.

The two-goal edge was enough for freshman goalkeeper Ally White, making her first career start. White finished with three saves in the game, facing nine shots, to record her first career shutout. She joins fellow goalkeeper mates Rachel Suther and Sarah Zieman as the only Fordham goalies to record a shutout in her first collegiate start.

MAKSUTI NAMED A-10 CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK (9/6): Fordham University freshman forward Kristina Maksuti was named Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Co-Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference. This is Maksuti's first career Atlantic 10 weekly honor.

In two games, Maksuti tallied five points last week, netting a pair of game-winning goals. She scored the game-winner in a 4-3 overtime comeback victory over Cornell on Friday, and then tallied the eventual game winner and an assist in a 3-1 win at Delaware State on Sunday.

Overall, Maksuti leads the team in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points in five games.

MULTI-GOAL GAMES: For the first time in 2009, the Rams have multiple players that have scored at least two goals in a game this season. Freshman Kristina Makusti pulled the feat in the first game of the season against Seton Hall, while junior Annie Worden turned the trick against Stony Brook this past Sunday.

Worden was also a part of the last time this happened in 2009, joining Michelle Ancelj and Leah Loguidice with multi-goal games.
