Fordham Football Game at UConn Postponed

Aug. 30, 2011

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University - University of Connecticut football game originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 1, has been postponed due to Rentschler Field being unavailable for use. The stadium is currently being used by the Connecticut National Guard for use as a commodities distribution center to provide towns and cities of the state that are in need of essential supplies in the wake of Hurricane Irene.

UConn is hopeful to receive confirmation that the game will be rescheduled to Saturday at Rentschler Field.

Notes from Practice

- The game is the first postponement of a game for the Rams since the Fordham-Rhode Island game originally scheduled for September 6, 2008 on Jack Coffey Field was pushed to the next day by the remnants of Tropical Storm Hanna.

- Despite the game being postponed tentatively until Saturday, the Rams still went through a light practice tonight (no pads, only helmets). The goal of the practice was mental preparation. Classes start tomorrow at Fordham and so the team will be settling into its usual morning practice slot and will be in pads.

- Head coach Tom Masella tried to turn the postponement into a positive telling the troops that "the delay will give us more time to prepare and get ready for UConn. Whenever we play them this will give us an opportunity to be that much more prepared."

- The freshman had a busy day today with orientation meetings all day followed by practice and then one last orientation meeting tonight.
