The 2011 Hermann Trophy Watch List names have been released and two members of the Fordham men's soccer team, Tim Richardson and Ryan Meara, were named to the prestigious list. The award, given to the nation's top soccer player annually, is voted upon by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Richardson, a senior midfielder for the Rams, tied for the team lead in points in 2010, with 10. He was named All-Mid-Atlantic First Team by the NSCAA as well as All -Atlantic 10, First Team following his junior season. This is the first time his name has appeared on the watch list.
Meara, a fellow senior in 2011, earned the mention for the award for the second consecutive year. He was also named All-Mid-Atlantic First Team by the NSCAA and First Team All-Atlantic 10 in 2010. Meara played all but eight minutes between the pipes as a junior and was named the soccer MVP at the 2011 Block F dinner in May.
Richardson and Meara join Temple's Cody Calafiore and Charlotte's Charles Rodriguez, as the only A-10 players on the list. The Rams open up the regular season on Saturday, August 27 when they travel to Connecticut to face Hartford at 7:00 PM. Fordham's home opener is slated for Wednesday, August 31 against Lehigh at 7:00 PM at Jack Coffey Field.
