Harlem, N.Y. -
What started out as a project by Fordham assistant softball coach Emily Friedman, as she played for the Chicago Bandits of National Pro Fastpitch last summer, came to a head on Friday, as the Give-a-Glove Program handed out a number of donated gloves to the Harlem RBI program.
Members of the Fordham softball and women's basketball teams joined Friedman on a trip down to a small park on 103rd Street in Harlem, where student-athletes Jamie LaBovick, Jo Krasnisky, Christina Siesta, Charlotte Stoddart, Ranait Griff, Kelly McGovern, and Emily Tapio assisted in the distribution of the gloves to youngsters at Harlem RBI.
"Today was a great opportunity to bring together an equipment drive I started last year and having our student-athletes reach out and give back to the community," said Friedman.
Krasnisky, who currently works at Harlem RBI as a teacher, worked with Friedman to set-up today's visit.
"It is a great non-profit organization for inner-city youth. The program assists with teaching children reading and writing in the morning, playing baseball and softball in the afternoon, and helps teach life skills and how to be a part of a team," said Krasnisky.
Harlem RBI's mission is to provide inner-city youth with opportunities to Play, Learn and Grow. The program uses the power of teams to coach, teach and inspire youth to recognize their potential and realize their dreams. Harlem RBI's vision is to be a model learning community where youth become healthy, educated and active global citizens who achieve excellence and change the world.
