Former Ram Hoopster, Christie Kennedy Augustine, Inducted into Tri-State Sports Hall of Fame

Bronx, N.Y. - Former Fordham basketball standout, Christie Kennedy Augustine, earned another award recently as she found out she will be inducted into the Tri-State Sports Hall of Fame as part of their banquet on July 2. Her exemplary career with the Rams led to her eventual nomination and election into the Hall.

Augustine, a 1992, graduate of the University, completed her Fordham career tenth on the all-time scoring list with 1,123 points. She was fifth in three pointers made (50) and in three point percentage (.329). Furthermore, Kennedy Augustine is still the only Fordham player to score 1000 points, collect 600 rebounds, grab 100 steals and dish out 100 assists. The highlight of her career came in 1992 when she was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1992 Patriot League Tournament after helping the team win the 1992 Patriot League Championship.

In the classroom, the hall of famer graduated with honors with a degree in General Science and a minor in psychology. She earned her Master's in Physical Therapy from Northwestern in 1994.

The Wallenpaupack High School (Pa.) grad recently accepted a coaching position at the University of Scranton. The avid marathon runner has completed runs in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Albuquerque and Scranton.

The Tri-State Sports Hall of Fame encompasses the states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The mission of the institution is to recognize and honor the men and women who have excelled after high school in playing a sport in college or professionally. Besides Kennedy Augustine, key names in the 2011 induction class include former Cincinnati Bengals lineman, Ray Wagner, current Knicks all-star, Amare Stoudemire, and twin brothers, and Olympic champions, Ed and Lou Banach as well as former Minnesota Twins closer, Joe Nathan.

The banquet will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Erie Trackside Manor in Port Jervis, New York. The evening begins at 7:00 P.M. and the keynote speaker is Nick Valvano, the CEO of the Jimmy V. Foundation.
