Fordham softball pitcher Jen Mineau continues to rack up the awards as she was named the Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year for the second straight time, it was announced on Monday by the League. The voting was conducted by the conference's sports information directors.
The 2011 Pre-Season All-American has several highlights in the circle this season culminating with a perfect game against St. Peter's on April 27 and a no-hitter against George Washington earlier in the season. Following the perfect outing against the Peahens, she was named the NFCA Co-National Player of the Week and was also feted by USA Softball as its Collegiate Player of the Week at the same time.
In the classroom, Mineau is able to balance a rigorous academic schedule balanced with softball success. She maintains a 3.70 grade point average while pursuing a career in Visual Arts.
The Schaghticoke, New York, native is joined on the Academic All-Conference Team by her teammate, Beckah Wiggins, Tenaya Tucker and Whitney Willams from Charlotte, Dayton's Kathleen Maloof, Kyllie Magill from Massachusetts, St. Bonaventure's Kara Morenus, Saint Joseph's Dana Parks, Saint Louis' Kristin Nicoletti and Samantha Schoell of Temple. This is the third consecutive year a Rams' softball player has captured the award. Prior to Mineau's two straight awards, Mary Beth Puccio was feted for the 2009 season.
Additionally, it was announced today that she was also named First Team Capital One Academic All-District (also for the second straight season). Because of that, her name will go on the ballot for Academic All-American consideration.
