Fordham University senior Ryan David (Meriden, Conn./O.H. Platt) and freshman Chris Pike (Watermill, N.Y./Southampton) were both honored in the final set of Atlantic 10 baseball weekly awards. David received his first career Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award, while Pike earned his third Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week citiation.
David capped his Fordham career, hitting .533 over the weekend and ended the season on a nine-game hitting streak. He posted his first career four-hit game on Thursday, before recording the game-winning RBI in Friday's win over Xavier.
David closed out the series with three hits and two RBI in a hard-fought 14-inning loss to the Musketeers. He finished the year with a team-best .321 average at the plate, 21 multi-hit games, and was selected as the team's MVP this season.
Pike earned his third Atlantic 10 weekly award of the season, tying him with Charlotte's Tyler Barnette for the league lead. In a must win effort on Friday, he tossed a complete-game, five-hitter, as the Rams defeated Xavier, 3-2.
Pike took the game over after the fourth frame, allowing only two base runners over the final five innings and struck out four of the final six batters in the game to post his eighth win of the year. He closed out the contest with just one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts. The outing marked Pike's third complete game of the year, tying for the team lead.
With the win, Pike ended the year with an 8-1 record, leading the team in wins, to go along with a 2.41 ERA and a team-high 70 strikeouts.
