University Park, Pa. - After sweeping through the Atlantic 10 Tournament en route to the school's first-ever A-10 Championship, the Fordham softball team earned the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Regional, where they will open up play against the host school, Penn State, in University Park on Friday, May 20 at 5:00 P.M. The game will begin after the opening game between Albany and Oregon is concluded.

The Rams got here largely on the right arm of Jen Mineau. The junior, All-American, ended the season with 70 consecutive scoreless innings, including three shutouts in the A-10 championship. She earned All A-10 First Team accolades for her stellar season.

Offensively, the team was led by the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Jocelyn Dearborn. She broke several all-time records in the 2011 campaign.

The opponent for Fordham on Friday, the Penn State Nittany Lions, earned an at-large bid out of the Big Ten conference. They finished the year with a 29-22-1 record, including a Big Ten mark of 11-8-1. Fordham has a 1-1 record against schools from the Big Ten Conference in 2011. The Rams beat Indiana, 2-0 on February 19, in the South Florida Tournament, but lost to Illinois, 4-1, on March 5, in the 2011 Citrus Classic.

Depending upon the outcome of the games on Friday, Fordham will face either Albany or Oregon on Saturday. The Great Danes earned a trip by winning the America East championship and the Ducks received an at-large bid out of the Pac-10.
