Fordham Softball's Chelsea Palumbo Wins Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

Newport News, Va. - Fordham outfielder, Chelsea Palumbo was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday, May 2. It was the first such honor of the season for the sophomore.

In a week that saw the Rams go a perfect 7-0 and clinch the 2011 regular season title, Palumbo was a key cog in the team's success. She posted a .900 slugging percentage for the week, while batting .550 (11-for-20). Palumbo struck out only once and drove in 13 runs, marked a .524 on-base percentage and didn't commit any errors.

The highlight of her week came against Massachusetts on April 29. In the 6-0 Fordham win, Palumbo checked in with two hits, one home run, a run scored and five RBI.

Palumbo and the rest of the Rams return to action on Thursday, May 12 against an unknown opponent in the Atlantic 10 Championship. The team earned a first-round bye when they clinched the regular season championship over the weekend.
