Starkville, Miss. -
The National Fast Pitch Coaches Association has announced the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region Teams and four Fordham softball players were named to the team. Jen Mineau and Jocelyn Dearborn were selected First Team Mid-Atlantic for pitcher and third base, respectively, and Samantha Pellechio and Nicole Callahan were named to the Second Team Mid-Atlantic region for shortstop and designated player.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
This is the second straight season that Mineau and Deaborn were selected to the first team. Pellechio earned Second Team accolades for the second time and for Callahan, it was the first such honor of her career.
Other A-10 honorees on the first team were Charlotte's Tenaya Tucker at catcher, and Dayton's Lauren Nacke at utility. On the second team, the A-10 was represented at outfield by Charlotte's Brianna Gwaltney and Whitney Williams.
The four players and the Rams return to action on Friday, May 20, when they face Penn State in the opening round of the NCAA Regional at University Park, Pennsylvania. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 P.M.
