Atlantic 10 Release
Bronx, N.Y. -
Fordham University senior Kerri Gallagher (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) was recognized for her athletic and academic accomplishments by being named to the 2011 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team for women's outdoor track and field in a vote by the conference's Sports Information Directors. This is the third Academic All-Conference award for Gallagher, who also received the accolade for both indoor and outdoor track last year.
To be nominated for Academic All-Conference honors, a player must be a starter or important reserve and have a cumulative 3.0 gpa or better (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her entire academic career.
Gallagher, recipient of the 2011 Claire & Jack Hobbs Memorial Award which is presented annually to the Female Athlete of the Year at Fordham who has achieved outstanding athletic accomplishments, is in her senior year as a member of the women's cross country and track and field squads, serving as team captain for both teams.
At the 2011 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships on May 7th and 8th at Charlotte, Gallagher earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by placing second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:25.32. She was also a member of the 4x400 relay that took fifth place in a record time of 3:47.81, breaking the mark of 3:50.64, set at last year's Atlantic 10 Championship on a team that included Gallagher.
This spring Gallagher also won the 1500m at the Raleigh Relays with one of the top women's 1500m times in the country this year (4:26.34), the second fastest women's 1500m time Fordham history and has qualified for the ECAC Championship in the 1500m and with the 4x800 relay. She also won the 800m and the 1500m at the 2011 Metropolitan Championships.
In her most recent action, Gallagher took 12th in the ECAC Championships last weekend at Princeton. She will next compete at the NCAA Regionals on May 27th and 28th at the University of Indiana.
