The Fordham University crew commenced action today at the 2011 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River where the Varsity 8 placed second in its heat to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.
The Fordham Varsity 8 covered the course in a time of 6:56.44, just behind Sacramento State but well ahead of George Mason, Loyola, William and Mary and Villanova.
The Rams raced in three other event heats on the first day with the Junior Varsity 8 placing third, the Freshman/Novice 8 taking fifth and the Varsity 4 placing sixth.
The Junior Varsity 8 finished behind Bucknell and Purdue but in front of George Mason, Ohio State and Temple with a time of 7:24.21.
The Freshman/Novice 8 was fifth with just over 1.5 second separating the third, fourth and fifth boats. The Rams crossed the line in 7:49.85, just behind Marist, who took third, and Army, who was fourth.
In the Varsity 4, the Rams placed sixth in the heat in a time of 8:32.07.
The 2011 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta will conclude on Saturday.
