Fordham Opens Atlantic 10 Championship Play on Thursday, May 12

Charlotte, N.C. - As the top seed in the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship, the Fordham softball team earned a bye on Wednesday, May 11, the opening round of the tournament. Several of the Rams were spectators as they watched their potential opponents, Temple or Charlotte, face each other. In the end, the 49ers escaped with a 3-0 victory and face the Rams on Thursday.

Fordham enters play as the top seed, and recently saw several players feted with All-League accolades. Jen Mineau and Jocelyn Dearborn were named as All A-10 First Team honorees. Gabby Luety was named to the All-Rookie team and Jamie LaBovick garnered Second Team accolades. Additionally, Dearborn was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and Head Coach, Bridget Orchard, was named the Coach of the Year.

The Rams finished the 2011 campaign with a 38-17 overall mark and a 16-4 record in conference play. Fordham won the regular season title for the second time, having first won the bauble in 2005. In 2010, as the second overall seed in the A-10 championship, the Rams fell to the Minutewomen in the title game, but received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship.
