As the 2010-11 season begins to wind down, the Fordham University Athletic Department held its 77th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on May 4th to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year.
Among those honored was Christi Griffiths, who was the recipient of the Benedict T. Harter award is presented to the Gabelli School of Business senior athlete who has made significant academic and athletic contributions. The award honors Ben Harter, Gabelli School of Business Class of 1939, a former dean of both Fordham's undergraduate and graduate schools of business, who was an avid follower and supporter of Fordham Athletics.
Griffiths, an Accounting major, is a four-year member of the women's volleyball team. An accounting major with a 3.73 GPA, she was named to the 2010 Atlantic 10 All-Academic team and is four-year member of the Atlantic 10 commissioner's honor roll.
Griffiths had another standout season for Fordham, leading the squad in hitting percentage (.287), service aces (28), and total blocks (99). She also recorded 290 kills, fourth best on the team. Over the course of the season, Griffiths became the Rams' career leader in matches played (137), sets played (517), total blocks (419), block assists (345), and solo blocks (74), while being second all-time with 1,381 kills. She is also fourth in career hitting percentage (.277) and eighth in kills/set (2.67).
Griffiths was also honored as the team Most Valuable Player at the dinner and was presented an Athlete Academic Achievement Award, given to senior student-athletes have been selected for outstanding athletic and academic achievement with a 3.5 GPA or better.
