Charlottsville, Va. - The Fordham University women's tennis team closed out its season today with a 4-2 loss to the University of Dayton in the ninth-place game at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championships at The Boar's Head Inn.

The Rams opened the match by dropping the doubles point, losing both of the completed doubles matches. Hanna Fritzinger and Sarah Tremaine were upended at second doubles by Loni Dickerhoof and Laina Grote, 8-5, while Bethany Boyle and Jennifer Mullen fell to Kelly O'Connell and Claire McNulty at the third position, 8-2. Fordham's Mia Fiocca and Angelika Dabu were leading Claire Dreyer and Maureen Stevens at first doubles when the match was halted.

Fordham picked up two points with singles wins from Dabu and Fritzinger. Dabu won at second singles in straight sets over Dickerhoof, 6-1, 6-2, while Fritzinger was also victorious in straight sets, knocking off Stevens, 6-4, 6-3, at the fourth spot. Fiocca had taken the first set at first singles from Dreyer, 7-6, and was leading in the second, 5-3, when the match was halted after the Flyers picked up their fourth point to clinch the match.
