The Fordham University crew commenced rowing at the 2011 Knecht Cup on the Cooper River today with the second varsity 8 advancing to tomorrow's petite final and the varsity 8 advancing to the third lever final.
The Fordham varsity 8 advanced to the semifinals by placing third in its heat in a time of 7:17.60. The Rams finished in front of Boston College, Duquesne and La Salle in the race.
In the varsity 8 semifinals, Fordham placed fifth in its heat is a time of 6:57.03, beating Drexel to the line but placing behind Old Dominion, Grand Valley, Miami and Kansas. The fifth place finish earned the Rams a spot in tomorrow's third level final on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
The second varsity 8 took third in its heat in 7:48.90 to advance to the semifinals. The Fordham second varsity 8 beat Old Dominion, Washington College and Mary Washington to the finish line but was behind Delaware and Rutgers.
In the second varsity 8 semifinals, the Rams edged out Kansas by 0.02 seconds for fifth place and a spot in the petite final on Sunday at 12:40 p.m.
The Rams also competed in the varsity 4 race with the Fordham shell placing sixth in the heat.
Fordham will conclude competition at the 2011 Knecht Cup on Sunday.
