Men's Tennis Falls to St. Francis, 4-3

Bronx, N.Y. - Playing with a roster depleted by injuries, the 2011 Fordham University men's tennis team battled St. Francis (N.Y.) College today on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts, coming up just short at the end, falling to the Terriers, 4-3.

The Rams opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Eli Plangger and Andriy Kulak were victorious at second doubles over Martin Grunin and Edward Alontaga, 9-8 (8), and Kevin Maloney and Dan Kane-West upended James Brennan-Tsang and Daniel Gonzalez at third doubles, 8-5, to win the point for Fordham. At first doubles, Nick Kelly and Ken Fukumoto fell to St. Francis' Titi Mba and Danlahdi Robinson, 8-3.

In singles action, all six matches were decided in straight sets with the Rams picking up wins at the second and fourth positions. Kulak defeated Brennan-Tsang at second singles (6-3, 6-4) and Plangger took fourth singles from Alontaga (6-0, 6-2).

The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, April 6th, as they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to face Vassar College at 4:00 p.m.
