Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - The Fordham golf team sits in eighth place out of 11 teams after completion of play in day one of the Atlantic 10 Championship at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort from Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Devon O'Rourke shot a team-best 81 to lead the Rams.

O'Rourke's 81 puts him in a tie for 33rd place, along with teammates Brody Nieporte, Connor Monaghan and four other golfers. Jason Del Rosso shot an opening round, 82, which was 10 over par, and put him in a tie for 40th position. The final Fordham golfer, Ryan Donahue, placed in a tie for 42nd with an 11-over-par, 83.

The team score for the round was 325, three strokes ahead of ninth-place Saint Joseph's and 10 strokes behind Dayton, who is in seventh. The leaders after round one are Charlotte and Xavier, who are tied at 290, or two-over-par.

Because of a shotgun start, the Fordham golfers were scattered across the course to start. O'Rourke began his day on 11, and was six-over after five holes with a double bogey, three bogeys and a par. He ended his day on a high-note, though, by sinking a birdie putt on 10.

Del Rosso started on 10 and he had 14 pars, a double bogey, triple bogey and quadruple bogey during his round. Monaghan, like O'Rourke, birdied 10, but her also recorded seven bogeys and a triple bogey.

Nieporte led the Rams with two birdies in the round. He shot one under on both 2 and 14. He shot even par on the back nine. Donahue had seven bogeys and 11 pars, but no double of triple bogeys on the day.

Round two gets underway on Saturday, April 30, via a shotgun start, at 10:00 A.M. Fordham will look to improve on its eighth-place standing.
