Track & Field Opens Competition at the 2011 Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa. - Competition at the 2011 Penn Relays began at Franklin Field on Thursday with Fordham and six other Atlantic 10 teams in the field. A total of 23 Division I conferences are represented at this year's event.

Fordham has a total of seven entries in the Penn Relays, three of which were in action on day one.

The women's 4x100 relay was the Rams' first entry, and got the meet started with a bang. The group of Sherilyn Groeninger, Averie Sheppard, Titi Fagade, and Elisabeth Warren, placed 51st overall in a school record time of 48.74 seconds. The previous school record was 48.93 seconds, set last season.

The women's 4x400 relay followed with another highlight performance, as the team of Warren, Kerri Gallagher, Sheppard, and Kelly Connolly placed 40th overall in an ECAC qualifying time of 3:51.63, their best time of the season.

The Rams' final entry on day one was Julian Saad, who took 21st in the Olympic Development 5,000 Meter Run in a season-best time of 14:53.16.

Day two of the competition gets underway on Friday morning at 9:00 AM. On Friday, Fordham's entries are in the men's 4x400 relay (4:40 PM), the women's sprint medley relay (6:20 PM), and the men's sprint medley relay (6:45 PM).
