Volleyball Adds Former All-Atlantic 10 Performer Patricia Vernon to Coaching Staff

April 29, 2011

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham volleyball coach Peter Volkert announced the hiring of former Temple volleyball player and All-Atlantic 10 performer Patricia Vernon as an assistant coach today.

Vernon brings plenty of Atlantic 10 volleyball knowledge to Rose Hill, after a stellar four-year career at Temple University from 2004-07. She received a number of conference accolades, as she was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team three times (2005-07), the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team in 2004, and the Atlantic 10 All-Championship team in 2005.

Vernon finished her career seventh at Temple in career block assists (249), while recording over 1,100 kills and 300 total blocks in her four-year career. She was also a part of three Atlantic 10 East Division titles from 2005-07.

A local product from Ossining, New York, Vernon has assisted at a number of volleyball camps, including the Downstate Volleyball Camp, coaching aspiring female volleyball players, the Venom Sports Volleyball Camp, which mentored underprivileged youth, and the Bob Betrucci Volleyball Camp, which instructed college bound volleyball players.

In Fall 2010, Vernon was brought on as an assistant club volleyball coach at the Downstate Junior Volleyball Club in Peekskill, New York with the 18-1 Team, as well as the varsity head coach at The School of the Holy Child in Rye, New York. Last season, she led Holy Child to the 2010 League Championship for the first time in school history and a spot in the NYSAIS State Tournament.

Vernon graduated from Temple with a degree from the School of Communications and Theater.
