Track & Field Starts Strong at the Larry Ellis Invitational

Princeton, N.J. - The Fordham track & field team began a two-day stint at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday, hosted by Princeton University. On day one, the Rams had participants in three events: the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, the men's 800 meters, and the women's 1500 meters.

Brian Riley opened competition for Fordham in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, as he placed fifth in his heat, 22nd overall, in a season-best time of 9:15.87, just missing an IC4A qualifying time by 0.87 seconds.

Brian Schmidt however did post an IC4A qualifying time, as he won his heat of the men's 800 meters in a season-best time of 1:51.05, finishing ninth overall.

Kerri Gallagher finished the night in style, posting an NCAA regional qualifying time of 4:20.25 in the women's 1,500 meters, placing second overall and top collegiate time. Gallagher, who had been ranked 87th in the country in the 1,500 meters heading into the weekend, moved up to 17th in the country with the time on Friday.

Action at the Larry Ellis Invitational will continue on Saturday at 10:00 AM.
