The Fordham University men's and women's outdoor tack and field teams wrapped up competition at the 2011 Colonial Relays today with the men's 4x800 leading the charge, placing fourth overall in an IC4A qualifying time.
The men's 4x800 relay of John Cosgrove, Ryan Polo, Brian Schmidt and Brian Walter placed fourth in its section and fourth overall in a season best time of 7:39.70, qualifying Fordham for the 2011 IC4A Championships. The Rams, who also bettered the Penn Relay recommended qualifying time, finished behind Virginia Tech (7:31.39), Harvard (7:38.19) and Georgetown (7:38.93) but easily beat Rutgers (7:44.46), Temple and William and Mary among the 21 teams in the race.
Fordham also entered a second 4x800 relay in the event with the team of Michael Rossi, Tim Hutchinson, Carter Ward and Paul Szczepaniak taking sixth in their section and 15th overall in a time of 8:02.94.
The other men's relay that competed on Saturday was the distance medley relay of Michael Belgiovine, Sean Atkinson, Jarrett Anistranski and Sam Stuart who placed tenth in a season-best time of 10:22.25.
On the women's side, the Rams competed in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x800 as well as having competitors in the high jump and long jump.
The top relay for the women was the 4x200 which placed fourth in its heat and tenth overall in a season-best time of 1:46.46. The 4x200 was comprised of

Averie Sheppard,
Elisabeth Warren and
Titi Fagade. The squad finished just 0.65 seconds behind Bowie State in its section.
The 4x800 team of Diane Bain, Anisa Arsenault, Kerri Gallagher and Kelly Connolly won its heat and placed 11th overall in 9:16.59. The Rams finished a second in front of Bucknell in their section and also beat Atlantic 10 foes Richmond and Saint Joseph's in the race.
The 4x100 relay of Sherilyn Groeninger, Averie Sheppard, Titi Fagade and Elisabeth Warren placed second in its heat and 12th overall in 49.74.
Individually for the Fordham women, Courtnay Newman tied for 20th overall in the high jump with a jump of 5' 1" while Warren was 31st in the long jump with a leap of 16' 4.25".
The Fordham men's and women's outdoor track and field team will return to action on Saturday, April 9th as part of the team will compete at the Rutgers Invitational and part will compete at the FDU Invitational.
