Bronx, N.Y. - Playing with only five players, the Fordham University women's tennis squad needed to be almost perfect to win its match today against Marist on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts. Despite a valiant effort from the Rams, Fordham fell to the visitors, 5-2.

Fordham opened the match dropping the doubles point as the Red Foxes took both of the matches that were played. Mia Fiocca and Sarah Tremaine fell at first doubles to Kelsey Raynor and Joana Sun, 9-2, while Bethany Boyle and Hanna Fritzinger almost came out on top at second doubles, falling to Erin McCarthy and Marielle Campbell, 9-8 (7-2 in the tiebreaker). Marist won the third doubles spot by default.

The two Fordham points came from singles wins by Fritzinger at third position and Boyle at the fourth spot. Fritzinger defeated Sun in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-0, while Boyle dropped the first set to Campbell, 6-4, before coming back with a 6-4 win in the second set to force a tiebreaker which she took 10-6.

The Rams will next be in action on Sunday, April 3rd, as they travel to Philadelphia to face Saint Joseph's University for a 2:00 p.m. match.
