Emmitsburg, Md. -
The Fordham men's golf team is clinging to first place, out of nine teams, after conclusion of play on day one at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational from Emmitsburg, Maryland. Jason Del Rosso posted scores of 70 and 71 for the first two rounds (good for a total of -3 on a par 72). Del Rosso's two round total of 141 is the third-best two round score in the history of the Invitational from Quail Valley Golf Club. The Rams posted two round team scores of 295 and 298, for a combined score of 593. The second place school, Monmouth University, sits five strokes behind Fordham at 598.
After Del Rosso's second place standing, the next best Fordham golfer was Connor Monaghan. He shot scores of 72 and 75 for a combined 147, putting him in a tie for sixth position. Devon O'Rourke was the next links man to place, as his 151 (75 and 76) posted him in a tie for 13th. The final two golfers to score for the Rams were Brody Nieporte and Ryan Donahue. Nieporte's dual 77s gave him a total of 144 and put him in a tie at 19th. Finally, Donahue shot rounds of 81 and 80, for a combined 161. He is tied for 38th.
Two other Fordham golfers competed but didn't post scores in the team scoring. His 158 places him at 28th place with several other golfers.
Day two of the Invitational gets underway at 8:00 A.M. If Fordham can hold it's lead, the Rams will win their first event of the spring season.
