Fordham's Sam Houston Named Atlantic 10 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week

Newport News, Va. - Fordham University freshman Sam Houston (Windermere, Fla./Lake Highland) was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week today, it was announced by the league. It is his first career weekly award.

Houston placed second in the decathlon at the 2011 Outdoor Metropolitan Championships this weekend, helping Fordham to a third place finish. He posted a score of 6,258 points, which ranks third in the conference this season.

Houston won five of the ten events in the competition, which included the 1,500 meter run (4:48.74), the 400 meter dash (50.0), the 100 meter dash (11.1), the long jump (22' 9 1/4"), and the high jump (6' 4 1/4"). He posted the team's season-best marks in both the long jump and high jump.

Houston and the rest of the Fordham track & field team will next be in action on April 22-23, as the team competes at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey.
