Bronx, N.Y. -
The Fordham women's soccer team announced its 2011 schedule today, which will feature ten non-conference games and nine Atlantic 10 contests. Included in those non-conference games, the Rams will play two NCAA teams from a year ago, three teams from the Big East, and make their first ever Texas trip, as the Rams participate in a tournament hosted by Texas A&M.
This will be the fourth straight season that Fordham will have a major non-conference road trip, following excursions to North Carolina (2008), Nevada (2009), and Florida (2010) over the past three seasons.
Fordham will open their 19th season of varsity play with three straight road contests against Big East opponents. The Rams begin at Seton Hall with a night game on August 21st in South Orange, N.J. The following weekend, Fordham will play at St. John's on Friday, August 26th, and at Rutgers on Sunday, August 28th. Other non-conference road games will take place on September 4th at Delaware State and September 9th at Manhattan.
Fordham begins its home schedule on Friday, September 2nd, when the team hosts Cornell at 7:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field. Other non-conference home games include Stony Brook on September 11th and Columbia on September 25th.
Fordham will participate in one tournament this season, as the team will be at Texas A&M from September 16th-18th, where the Rams will meet Utah Valley State on September 16th and host Texas A&M, who made the NCAA Tournament last year, on September 18th.
Fordham begins a nine-game Atlantic 10 conference schedule on Friday, September 30th with the first of four straight conference home games. The Rams will meet Saint Joseph's that night, followed by games against Temple (Oct. 2), Xavier (Oct. 7), and Dayton (Oct. 10), the defending Atlantic 10 champion. The Rams' final home game will be on Friday, October 28th, when Fordham hosts La Salle in the second half of a soccer doubleheader with the men's team.
As well as the five Atlantic 10 home games, Fordham plays road contests this season at Massachusetts (Oct. 14), Rhode Island (Oct. 16), Saint Louis (Oct. 21), and Charlotte (Oct. 23).
In addition to the 19 regular season games, Fordham will have one exhibition contest at home against Iona on August 13th.
After missing out the conference championship last year on a tiebreaker, the Rams will look to return to the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2011, which will be held in Dayton, Ohio.
