The Fordham track & field team opened competition at the 46th Annual Colonial Relays on Friday, held at William & Mary's Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Virginia. Day one would see Fordham earn five top 15 finishes, which included four in the men's competition.
Overall, Fordham's best finish on day one was put in by senior Kerri Gallagher, who placed seventh in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:10.72, while junior Brian Riley was ninth in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 9:31.40.
Other top 15 finishes came from senior Pat Brown, who was 10th in the hammer throw with a mark of 151' 8", sophomore Sean Atkinson, who was 12th in the 400 meter hurdles in 56.21 seconds, and senior Augustus Gleason, who placed 15th in the javelin throw with a distance of 147' 7".
Besides Gallagher's run, the women were led by Elisabeth Warren, who was 27th in the 400 meter dash (59.74), and Sherilyn Groeninger, who was 29th in the 100 meter dash in 13.05 seconds. In the hurdles, Averie Sheppard was 33rd in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.55) and 38th in the 100 meter hurdles (16.64) with Courtnay Newman taking 34th in the 100 meter hurdles (16.51). Anisa Arsenault placed 34th in the 1500 meter run in 4:43.86 with Mairin O'Connor taking 40th overall in the 5,000 meter run in 18:36.28.
On the men's side, the Fordham men had two in the top 30 of the 400 meter dash as Christopher Lyons was 24th in 50.69 seconds, with Michael Bongiorno right behind him in 26th place in 50.84 seconds, while John Cosgrove was 22nd in the 800 meter run in 1:54.11. Three Rams were in the top 40 in the 200 meter dash, led by Lyons in 25th (23.07), Sam Houston in 30th (23.29), and Frank Massaro in 31st (23.30). Nick Synan also had a top 30 finish, coming across the finish line in 28th place in the 5,000 meter run in 15:20.07.
The Colonial Relays conclude with a full slate of relay and field events on Saturday, beginning at 9:00 AM.
