Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. -
Former Fordham men's soccer player Grant Kerr has been signed by the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the upcoming 2011 season, it was announced by the team. Per team policy, terms of the deals have not been disclosed.
"Grant is a midfielder with a lot of bite. He will add a lot to our midfield. We are excited for his arrival from Scotland," said Daryl Shore, the head coach of the Strikers.
Kerr, 25, is a native of Irvine, Scotland and began his career a few hundred miles south at Everton Football Club as an academy player. After training in Everton's Youth Academy, Kerr came to Fordham in 2005 and was a four-year starter for the Rams, starting 70 of 72 games and ranking sixth all-time in games started and eighth in games played.
An Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team selection in 2005, Kerr finished his Fordham career, with six goals and 11 assists for 23 points.
In 2010, Kerr took his trade back to England where he played for Southend United of England's distinguished League One. Later in the year he found his way into the Cyprus First Division playing with FC Digenis.
"We are very proud of Grant. He has earned this opportunity through hard work and perseverance. I have no doubts he will be very successful with his new club and will represent Fordham University with pride," said Fordham head coach Jim McElderry.
