Andrew Smith Named Director of Compliance at Fordham University

Bronx, N.Y. - Andrew Smith, a graduate of Boston College and St. John's Law School, was named Director of Compliance at Fordham University it was announced today by Charlie Elwood, the school's Director of Athletic Administration. Smith replaces Ed Rose who assumed the position as Associate Athletic Director for Business at Fordham in January.

Smith had recently worked as a freshman guidance and AP Government teacher at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, N.Y., a position he held since August. He has also been serving as an assistant varsity boys basketball coach as well as the head junior varsity coach at Stepinac, positions he has held since 2006. A licensed New York State attorney, Smith was additionally operating a solo law firm practice in White Plains.

Prior to his time at Stepinac, Smith served as a Compliance Intern to Rose at Fordham from March of 2009 until March of 2010. In his first stint at Rose Hill, Smith assisted Rose with interpretation of NCAA rules and regulations as well as handling inquiries from coaches, student-athletes and parents. He also prepared and distributed monthly compliance newsletters and monitored initial eligibility with the NCAA Eligibility Center and continuing eligibility with the Fordham academic advising office.

Smith also has sports media experience, serving as a New York Mets intern in the summer of 2002, as a sports reporter for The Journal News from 2004-05 and as co-editor for SportNetNY's TheKnicksBlog.com since 2008.

A 2004 graduate of Boston College with a double major in History and Communications, Smith received a law degree from St. John's University in 2008.
