Bronx, N.Y. -
Last year it was John Skelton's time to shine for the NFL scouts at Fordham's Pro Day. This year it was his brother Stephen's turn to strut his stuff. But like a good big brother, John was there with Stephen today, not only to provide a hand to his younger brother, but to also provide an arm.
Six Rams participated in 2011 Pro Day led by Skelton and defensive back Isa Abdul-Quddus who were joined by running back Xavier Martin, wide receiver David Moore, offensive lineman Adnan Vandyck and defensive lineman Michael Hickman. Additionally, running back Darryl Whiting and linebacker Andre Delaire had their Junior Pro Day on Tuesday.
The six Rams were joined by 25 other players from 14 other schools such as Columbia, Yale, Princeton, Stony Brook, Albany and Monmouth.
Over 20 scouts from 16 different NFL teams ran the players through the drills, which started with recording height, weight, hand size and arm length. After the measurements were recorded, the players had a chance to bench press 250 pounds as many times as possible. Stony Brook offensive lineman Paul Fenarole led all competitors with 34 reps while Skelton led the Rams with 25 followed by Abdul-Quddus with 23.
The players then moved into the Lombardi Fieldhouse where they were tested on the vertical and broad jump. Abdul-Quddus led the Rams in both drills with a 35.5" vertical and a broad jump 10' 5". The top vertical jump performer was Xavier Brown, a defensive lineman from C.W, Post, with a jump of 39.5" while William Paterson defensive back Leer Biddle had the top broad jump at 10' 7".
After that it was out to Murphy Field for the 40-yard dash where Abdul-Quddus paced the Fordham competitors with a 4.47, tying Monmouth wide receiver Chris Hogan for the top 40 time on the day.
After the running, it was time for positional drills as the six Fordham players and selected others were asked to stay around for further evaluation from the scouts. The players were asked to do a 20-yard shuttle and a three-cone drill with Hogan clocking the fastest 20-yard shuttle time at 4.15 followed by Abdul-Quddus, Moore and Martin each turning finishing in 4.20 seconds. In the three-cone drill, Hogan again led the pack with a 6.75 followed by Biddle (6.78) and Hickman (7.03).
After the stop watches were put away the Skeltons took to the field under the guidance of Arizona tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens who had Stephen run routes with John throwing the ball.
"This was a great day for Fordham and the football program," said head coach Tom Masella. "I think it shows that if you come to Fordham you'll not only get a great education but you'll play football at the highest level. We were also glad to help out some of the players from other schools in the area to get noticed by the NFL scouts."
