Track & Field Competes at Monmouth Season Opener

Monmouth, N.J. - While some of the Fordham track & field team was competing in North Carolina, other members of the team were in Monmouth, New Jersey, competing at the Monmouth Season Opener. At the meet, Fordham had four top three finishes.

Highlighting the day, Fordham took the top three finishers in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase, led by Rich Grandelli, who won the event in 9:49.99, followed by Matt Collins in second (9:57.75), and Pat McDonough in third (10:07.35).

The Rams also had a top three finish in the men's 1,500 meter run, as Sam Stuart was third in 4:07.02.

Other competitors in the meet included Courtnay Newman, who was fourth in the women's high jump (5' 3 ¾"), and Blair Hassell, who was fourth in the women's javelin throw (120' 4"). Pat Brown (hammer throw - 150' 8 ½"), Keegan Talty (pole vault - 13' 5 ¾"), and Frank Massaro (100 dash - 11.62 seconds) all finished sixth in their respective events.

Fordham also ran one relay in the meet, as the men's 4x100 relay placed fifth in 45.45 seconds.

The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on April 1-2, as they compete at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary.
