Track & Field Begins Competition at the Raleigh Relays

Raleigh, N.C. - The Fordham track & field team has split in two this weekend, participating at the Raleigh Relays and the Monmouth Invitational. On Friday, it was day one of the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State. Day one of the meet saw Fordham competitors in nine events on the day.

In the field events, Fordham had three top ten finishes in the men's and women's long jump (Section II) and the men's high jump (Section II). Freshman Sam Houston had both of the men's top tens, as he tied for third in the long jump with a mark of 21' 6", while he tied for tenth in the high jump, clearing 6' 2 ¾". In the women's long jump, Elisabeth Warren placed ninth overall with a distance of 16' 7 ¼".

In the track events, Houston also competed in the 100 meter dash, placing 81st overall in 11.70 seconds, while in the women's 100 meter dash, Sherilyn Groeninger was 57th in 12.94 seconds.

Fordham's top finisher was Anisa Arsenault, who took 13th overall in the 10,000 meter run in 36:45.62, while Sean Atkinson was 19th in the 400 meter dash in 48.91 seconds. Joining Atkinson in the 400 meters was Brian Schmidt in 28th (49.34), Michael Bongiorno in 58th (50.97), and Christopher Lyons in 76th (51.48).

Fordham also had competitors in the women's 100 meter hurdles and the women's 400 meter dash. Averie Sheppard registered a 57th place finish in the hurdles in 16.13 seconds, while Kelly Connolly led a trio of women's runners in the 400 meter dash, placing 47th in 59.42 seconds. Titi Fagade was 68th overall in her first action as a Ram (1:00.43), with Ashley Davis placing 102nd overall (1:03.91).

Competition at the Raleigh Relays will conclude on Saturday.
