The last time the Fordham Softball team played the Maryland Terrapins was an historic day for the Rams. They defeated the Terps 2-1 in the 2010 NCAA Regional, which was the first-ever NCAA Championship win in softball history. The two teams met the following day and once again Fordham defeated Maryland.
The 2011 meeting, which is a doubleheader, will be at the same place as they 2010 games, Maryland's campus in College Park. Entering the games, Fordham is 14-10 on the season. They own three wins over ranked opponents in Texas, DePaul and Syracuse and are currently in the midst of a six game winning streak. Maryland enters play with a 13-9 ledger and has won four straight.
In its last game, Fordham defeated Virginia 9-1. The Terrapins are coming off a 4-1 victory over Quinnipiac. The first game of the doubleheader is slated for 5:00 P.M. and the rubber match will begin approximately at 7:00 P.M.
The Rams' Jocelyn Dearborn has been hot lately. She hit five homeruns in the recent Cavalier Classic tournament in Charlottesville, Virginia. In that tournament, the infielder had two multi-homerun games and a walk-off blast to help defeat #25 Syracuse.
Following the doubleheader with Maryland, Fordham will travel west of the Mississippi River to open up Atlantic 10 play with Saint Louis on Sunday, March 20. They will play a doubleheader with the Billikens with games at 1:00 and 3:30 P.M. Eastern Time. They open up at home on Wednesday, March 30 when the Lehigh Mountain Hawks visit for a pair of games.
