The Fordham women's tennis team began their spring break road trip on Wednesday, taking on the Loyola Greyhounds in Baltimore, Maryland. The Rams gave the Greyhounds all they could handle with the match coming down to a deciding third set at first singles, in which Loyola would sneak out a 4-3 win.
The match began with doubles action, as Loyola earned victories at second and third doubles to earn the point. Fordham did take the first doubles match, as Angelika Dabu and Mia Fiocca defeated Rachel Janasek and Joy Johnson by an 8-6 score.
In singles play, Fordham fought its way back into the match with singles victories in the second, third and fifth slots. Fiocca defeated Sabrina Fedele at second singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, as did Hanna Fritzinger at third singles over Scarlett Hoy, 6-3, 6-0.
Bethany Boyle earned the Rams' third point of the match, defeating Judy Lite at fifth singles, 6-3, 7-6, getting Fordham within one point of a win.
Loyola earned wins at fourth and sixth singles, leaving it to the first singles match as the deciding point. Dabu took the opening set at first singles over Janasek, 6-4, but Janasek recovered to win the second, 6-3, and took the final set, 6-4.
The Fordham women's tennis team will next be in action on Thursday, March 17th, as they travel to Towson for a 2:00 PM match.
