The Fordham men's tennis team continued its spring season on Wednesday at St. Peter's, falling to the Peacocks by a 5-0 score in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The match was shortened to four singles matches and one doubles match, for a best of five match-up.
In doubles play, St. Peter's Alex Frakes and Luccas Coutinho defeated Nick Kelly and Ken Fukumoto by a 6-2, 6-4 score.
In singles play, Sergey Igel topped Fordham's Austin Shoup, 6-2, 6-3, at first singles, while Robert Forai took down Fordham's Alex DeRienzo, 6-1, 6-3, at second singles.
At third singles, Fordham's Kevin Maloney put up a good fight, dropping the opening set to Edwin Huisman, 7-5, but would drop the second set, 6-0.
The Rams' best chance at a win was at fourth singles, as Dan Kane-West took on Lukas Popspisil. Popspisil took the opening set, 6-2, but Kane-West rallied for a 6-3 win in the second set. The two then played a super tie-breaker, which Popspisil won by a 10-1 score.
The Fordham men's tennis team will next be in action on Tuesday, March 22nd, as they host a home doubleheader at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts. The Rams will meet Wagner at noon, and New York Tech at 4:00 PM. Both matches were recent additions to the spring schedule.
