Fordham sent off its swimming & diving seniors out in style on Wednesday night, as the Rams swept their dual meet from St. Francis College at the Messmore Aquatic Center. Plus, for the second straight meet, a Fordham school record highlighted the night's wins.
The Fordham women (7-1) posted a 128-63 win, while the men's team (3-4) defeated the Terriers, 141-66.
The highlight of the evening came in the women's one-meter diving competition, as junior Elizabeth Dorger broke the Fordham school record, held by teammate Andrea Krok. Dorger scored 277.80 points, breaking Krok's 2010 mark of 276.30. Dorger also took home the three-meter dive with a score of 270.00.
Besides Dorger, fellow diver Joon Kynng Kim and swimmer Megan McGorry were also multi-event winners against the Terriers. Kim won both diving competitions with season-best scores of 212.40 (1M) and 206.70 (3M), while McGorry won the 200 freestyle in a season-best time of 1:53.17, as well as the 100 freestyle in 54.11 seconds.
Other women's winners included Kelly Bunster in the 200 individual medley (2:12.31), Brienne Ryan in the 100 butterfly (56.71 - season-best), Kellie Lyver in the 100 backstroke (1:01.26), Alexandra Wessel in the 500 freestyle (5:09.28), and Courtney Collyer in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.70 - season-best).
In the women's relays, Lyver, Bunster, Ryan, and Collyer combined for a win in the 200 medley relay in 1:51.58, while Bunster, Alana Biagioli, Lyver, and Ryan took home the 200 freestyle relay in 1:38.16.
In the men's competition, the Rams had eight different swimmers win an event, led by Shintaro Noguchi in the 200 individual medley and Billy Colton in the 100 breaststroke. Noguchi posted a season-best time of 1:55.84 in the individual medley, while Colton won the 100 breaststroke in a season-best time of 59.83 seconds.
Other men's winners included Patrick Nowak in the 200 freestyle (1:44.01), David Rowley in the 50 freestyle (22.44), Devon Morris in the 100 butterfly (53.99), Chris Schneck in the 100 freestyle (49.12), Will Thomann in the 100 backstroke (55.74), and Nicolas Alemann in the 500 freestyle (4:48.72).
In the men's relays, Thomas Yi, Morris, John Kundrat, and Ben Dwyer captured the 200 medley relay in 1:39.76, while Schneck, Kundrat, Dwyer, and Sean McManus won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:30.98.
The Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on February 23-26, as they head off to the Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York, for the 2011 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships.
