The Fordham track & field teams had the first of two warm-ups for this weekend's Valentine's Day Classic at Boston University, as the Rams traveled to Manhattan for a tri-meet with the Jaspers and Southern Connecticut State.
The 10-event meet saw Fordham capture the top spot in four events, led by freshman Taylor Jacob, who won the women's shot put event with a school record mark of 40' 2 ¾". It broke the previous mark of 39' 4", set by Jeana Fletcher in 2009.
Fellow freshman Elizabeth Akinyemi also captured a win, taking the 200 meter dash in 29.0 seconds.
On the men's side, Frank Massaro and Mackenzie Murphy were the event winners. Massaro posted the top time in the 200 meter dash at 24.1 seconds, while Murphy won the 55 meter hurdles in 8.1 seconds.
Other top performances came from Ken Baron in the pole vault, as he cleared 14' 9" for a third place finish, while Aaron Mays was second in the triple jump with a mark of 42' 7". In addition, Blair Hassell was third in the women's weight throw at 32' 0" with Courtnay Newman taking fourth in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.7 seconds.
The Rams have their second warm-up meet of the week on Thursday as the team will be at the Armory Track & Field Center for Thursday Night at the Races, beginning at 7:00 PM.
