38 Fordham Football Student-Athletes Named to Patriot League Academic Honor Roll

Feb. 7, 2011

Center Valley, Pa. - For the fourth straight year, a record has been set on the Patriot League Football Academic Honor Roll as 196 student-athletes qualified for the list announced on Friday. And Fordham was tops on that list, having 39 honorees, the most ever for a Fordham football team.

Fordham led all schools with 39 honorees, an increase of 15 from last year's total and the highest number for any Patriot League team in the fall. Lafayette followed with 33 student-athletes, 13 more than last year's amount. Holy Cross had 32 selections, while Bucknell had 31, Lehigh finished with 25, Georgetown tallied 23 and Colgate notched 14.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester and participate in one of the Patriot League's seven fall championship sports.

The total number of 196 is 41 student-athletes higher than last year's mark, and once again sets the record for most student-athletes on the list after high totals were recorded in 2007 (124), 2008 (133) and 2009 (155). The total of 196 student-athletes more than doubles the mark from the 2005 season.

Seven student-athletes recorded grade-point averages of 4.0 or higher, including two from Fordham: senior Jamal Haruna (Business Administration) and sophomore Craig Staub (Business Administration). Staub received a 4.0 GPA for the second consecutive fall semester.
