New York, N.Y. - Select members of the Fordham track & field team competed against the nation's best at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, hosted at the Armory Track & Field Center. The meet, which was highlighted by some of the premier collegiate track teams in the country, saw Fordham's Brian Schmidt and Kerri Gallagher have their own highlight, as both broke the school record in the men's and women's 800 meter run, respectively.

Gallagher was up first, competing in the women's 800 meter championship run, against runners from Connecticut, BYU, LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas, Baylor, Georgetown, and Duke. She would place sixth overall in a school record time of 2:07.61, bested by only Connecticut's Heather Wilson, BYU's Katie Palmer and Lacey Bleazard, LSU's Brittany Hall, and Tennessee's Chanelle Price.

Gallagher toppled Lauren Gubicza's 1992 school record of 2:10.76, by over three seconds.

Kerri Gallagher broke Lauen Gubicza's 1992 school record in the 800 meters on Saturday.

Schmidt followed with another incredible performance for Fordham, as he was up against athletes from Arkansas, Connecticut, Tennessee, VCU, LIU, Delaware State, Baylor, Columbia, Villanova, Portland State, and Duke. He finished eighth overall in a school record time of 1:50.98, breaking one of the older school records of 1:51.1, which was set by Jim DiRienzo in 1977.

In addition to Gallagher and Schmidt, Fordham also competed in the women's 500 meter college run, the men's 4x800 college relay, and the men's distance medley championship relay.

Kelly Connolly placed eighth in the women's 500 meters in a time of 1:16.68, while the men's 4x800 relay of Tim Hutchinson, Ryan Polo, Michael Rossi, and Brian Walter took second in a season-best time of 7:41.43.

The men's distance medley relay, consisting of Schmidt, Sean Atkinson, John Cosgrove, and Kevin Fitzgerald went up against the likes of Baylor, Kansas, Haverford, Tennessee, Columbia, Texas A&M, BYU, Albany, and Duke. Fordham would finish eighth in the 10-team field with a time of 10:06.11.
