The Fordham University men's basketball Rams continue their 2011 Atlantic 10 season on Saturday afternoon by hosting the University of Richmond Spiders in the Rose Hill Gym at 1:00 p.m. on Hall of Fame Day. Prior to the game five new members will be inducted into the Fordham Athletic Hall of Fame, joining the likes of Vince Lombardi, Vin Scully and Frankie Frisch. The Rams enter the game with a 6-14 overall record, 0-8 in the Atlantic 10, after dropping an Atlantic 10 game at Rhode Island on Wednesday night. The loss was Fordham's tenth in a row and 34th straight in the Atlantic 10 (Fordham's last A-10 win was at St. Bonaventure in 2009). Richmond enters the game with a 17-6 overall record, 6-2 in the conference, and is coming off a 62-52 A-10 win over Saint Joseph's in Richmond on Wednesday.
Fordham will be guided into the game by first-year head coach Tom Pecora, who arrived at Rose Hill in March after nine successful seasons as the head coach at Hofstra where he averaged 20 wins during the past six years.
On the court, Fordham is led by sophomore Chris Gaston and senior Brenton Butler. Gaston has posted a double-double in 12 of the 20 games this year and is averaging a team-high 15.1 ppg and 11.0 rpg, tops in the Atlantic 10 and sixth best in the nation, while Butler is second on the team is scoring, averaging 14.2 ppg while also dishing out a team-best 67 assists and climbing into tenth place on the Fordham all-time scoring list with 1,400 career points. Freshman guard Branden Frazier, a product of Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, is averaging 11.9 ppg.
Saturday's game will be the 16th meeting between the Rams and the Spiders on the hardwood. Richmond leads the all-time series, 8-7, including an 84-56 win on Richmond last year.
