Mineau Named to USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Watchlist

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham junior pitcher Jen Mineau was named to the Top 50 Watchlist for the 2011 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year. The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America, the governing body of softball in the United States, included her in their 10th annual Player of the Year Award. The Award is widely considered the most prestigious honor in Division I collegiate softball.

Mineau comes off a sophomore campaign where she was named a USA Softball Player of the Year Top 10 Finalist, a First Team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American, a First Team NFCA All-Region (Mid-Atlantic) honoree as well as many other awards. The hurler threw three no hitter (two of which were perfect games), and set team records for games started (42), total appearances (50), complete games (30), wins (34), shutouts (15), innings pitched 282.1, strikeouts (503), and ERA with 1.04. She was feted as the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week five times and was named the Fordham Co-Female Athlete of the Year.

The 2011 Pre-season Watch List has 50 players representing 36 schools amongst 15 NCAA Division I conferences. The class breakdown includes 23 seniors, 12 juniors and 15 sophomores. The 25 finalists will be announced on April 13. The winner of the award will be named prior to the start of the 2011 NCAA Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
