New York, N.Y. - Coming off a record-setting performance at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, Fordham senior Kerri Gallagher didn't suffer a let down in the Armory Collegiate Challenge at the Armory Track and Field Center on Friday night, winning the 800m race.
Gallagher, who set Atlantic 10 championship records in the 1000m and mile last weekend, easily won the 800m tonight in a time of 2:08.93, almost six seconds ahead of runner-up Sarah Sudbury from St. John's.
On the men's side, the top Fordham finisher was Brian Schmidt, who placed second in the 500m in a school record time of 1:03.17, just 0.17 seconds behind St. John's Jared Sabre. He broke Deric Zaphire's 2003 record of 1:03.34.
Other women competing for the Rams at the Armory Collegiate Challenge included Kelly Connolly, who was fifth in the 500m (1:16.78), Courtnay Newman, who finished fifth in the high jump (5'5.25"), Sherilyn Groeninger, who placed seventh in the 60m (7.93) and 17th in the 200m (26.13), Ashley Davis, who placed eleventh in the 800m (2:19.68) and Averie Sheppard, who was 16th in the 400m (59.39).
Running along with Schmidt in the 500m for the men were John Cosgrove, who placed eighth (1:05.11 - IC4A qualifier) and Michael Rossi, who took 13th (1:06.25).
Other Fordham men competing included Sean Atkinson, who placed seventh in the 400m (49.42), Thomas Kelly, who finished seventh in the 1000m (2:30.41), Sam Houston, who was 18th in the 400m (50.32), Michael Bongiorno, who took 22nd in the 400m (50.58), Nick Delligatti, who was 23rd in the 400m (50.59) and Tim Hutchinson, who was 25th in the 800m (1:59.22).
Members of the Fordham men's and women's indoor track and field teams will next be in action next weekend, March 5th and 6th, as they compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
