Cartoon Network's Hall of Game Awards Honors Fordham Baseball Player Brian Kownacki With Most Viral Player Award

Feb. 25, 2011

Bronx, N.Y. - Just a day before Fordham baseball opens a three-game series with the Iona Gaels on Saturday, people who were present at last year's Fordham-Iona contest got a quick reminder of what happened on Friday, courtesy of Cartoon Network's Hall of Game Sports Awards Show. During the show, the "Most Viral Player" award was given to Fordham's Brian Kownacki for his viral highlight against Iona last year.

Kownacki was one of four nominees under the "Most Viral Player" categories, which can all be seen by going to the Hall of Game website (pictured below). The premise of the award answered the question, "What's the coolest amateur sports video?"

The highlight of Kownacki leaping over a catcher to score a run during last year's Iona game, has lived up to the "viral" moniker. A basic internet search will come up with a number of versions of the highlight, where the clips has been viewed over 3.5 million times combined in the 10 months that have passed, and those are just the YouTube versions.

The Hall of Game Award is most likely the final accolade for one of the most memorable moment in Fordham sports history, joining the ESPY Award nomination Kownacki received for the Play of the Year in 2010.

Fordham and Iona begin a three-game series on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader set for noon at McCrary Park in Asheboro, N.C.
