Senior Pitcher Chelsea Plimpton Named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week

Bronx, N.Y. - The first player of the week announcements from the Atlantic 10 league office were released on Monday, February 21 and Fordham's Chelsea Plimpton took home the inaugural Pitcher of the Week award for her opening performances. The senior picks up her first honor for the 2011 season.

She opened the season by shutting out the Florida Atlantic Owls, 1-0. In that game, she hurled a complete-game, three-hit shutout. She also set a new career high by striking out 11 batters while walking only one.

Later in the season, she took to the circle against South Florida. In that game, she threw four innings of shutout baseball and earned a no-decision. She surrendered only two hits and struck out two Bulls.

Saturday, February 19, was a very good day for Plimpton as she recorded two wins on the day. Her first win, a 2-0 shutout against Indiana, she her scatter three hits in four shutout innings of work. She didn't walk anyone and fanned three. Later in the day, she recorded her second win, this victory coming against #25 ranked DePaul University. Against the Blue Demons, she threw four innings of work and gave up three earned runs. Fordham beat DePaul 9-3.

Finally, she closed out the week as the hard-luck loser in a 2-0 setback to Alabama-Birmingham. Against the Blazers, she threw a complete game (her third of the season) and allowed just two runs. She gave up just five hits and only walked one batter.

The Fordham softball team returns to action on Thursday, February 24, 2011, when they participate in the Cathedral City Classic tournament in Cathedral City, California. They face Texas at 8:30 P.M. Eastern time in game one and Washington at 11:00 P.M. Eastern time in game two.
