Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Fordham women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring on Sunday, posting a 7-2 win over Vassar College at Walker Field House. The Rams earned five singles win on the day, including four in straight sets.

Playing with Division II rules for doubles, the Rams opened a 2-1 lead in the match, winning at first and third doubles. Mia Fiocca and Angelika Dabu topped Joy Backer and Nicole Block at first doubles, 8-3, while Sarah Tremaine and Jennifer Mullen defeated Natalie Santiago and Lindsay Kantor, 8-4.

In singles play, the Rams won the top five singles matches, led by Dabu, who posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jennifer Beckerman at first singles. Hanna Fritzinger won her second singles match, 6-3, 6-1, over Block with Fiocca earning a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Backer at third singles. Bethany Boyle also won in straight sets, taking the fifth singles match, 7-5, 6-2, over Santiago.

Tremaine round out the singles victories, as she split the first two sets with Jennifer Ruther, 6-4 and 4-6, and took the super tie-breaker, 10-7.

The Fordham women's tennis team will next be in action on March 2nd, as they play at St. Peter's, beginning at 4:00 PM.
