Hamden, Conn. -
The Fordham women's tennis team was back in action on Saturday, as the team traveled to Hamden, Connecticut, to face the Quinnipiac Bobcats. In the match, Hanna Fritzinger posted a singles win for the Rams, but it was the only marker for the maroon and white, falling by a 6-1 score.
Quinnipiac opened with the doubles point, eventually winning all three matches, but not without some difficulty. Fordham's Mia Fiocca and Angelika Dabu forced a deciding tie-breaker at first doubles, but lost the tie-breaker, 7-5, to Adrienne Markison and Rachel Cantor for an 8-7 final.
In singles play, Quinnipiac won four of the matches in straight set, with the other two going to three sets. At second singles, Fordham's Hanna Fritzinger pulled out the three-set win, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, over Markison for the Rams' only point of the match. Fiocca's third singles match also went three sets, as Fiocca won the opening set in a tie-break, 7-6 (7-4), but Juliet Labarthe rallied for her own tie-break win in the second set, 7-6 (7-4), and then took the finale, 6-2.
The Fordham women's tennis team will be right back in action on Sunday, February 20th, as they travel to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, for a noon match.
