CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Release
Chicago, Ill. - The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced the Scholar All America Team Awards for Fall 2010 today. Once again, Fordham was honored with both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams, receiving Scholar All-American Team status. This is the eighth consecutive year that both squads have been on the Scholar All-American team.
Instituted during the 2003-04 academic year, the criteria for the Scholar All-American Team award is given to a team competing at the NCAA, NAIA, or junior college levels, and maintains a GPA of a 3.0 or better. The GPA includes all athletes who competed in any competition during the course of the season.
The Fordham men's team's GPA of 3.14, ranked them in the top 25 for the second straight year, rating 17th overall out of the 41 schools that made the 3.0 minimum. Last year, Fordham was 24th out of 60 schools.
The Fordham women's team posted a 3.22 team GPA, ranking 59th overall, making them one of 85 schools, that were listed as a Scholar All-American Team. This is a move up for the women's team as the group rated 87th out of 128 teams last year.
Fordham joined fellow Jesuit institution, Xavier, as the only two Atlantic 10 schools to have both teams honored. The women's teams from Saint Louis, Duquesne, and George Washington were the other Atlantic 10 teams listed.
"This has been a team-oriented goal that our kids always strive for ever since the CSCAA instituted it," said head coach Steve Potsklan. "We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for the work they do not just in the pool, but in the classroom."
